Mission

The Counseling Department of Clifton Middle School endeavors to provide a safe, caring, trusting and challenging environment that supports and fosters the intellectual, physical, psychological, emotional, and social capabilities of all students. In partnership with the Clifton staff, parents, and the community, we form a support system to ensure that all Clifton students have access to the knowledge and skills necessary to become life-long learners and highly productive members of society.

Rationale

Key areas of concern among the students, parents and teachers at Clifton Middle School are as follows:
  • College preparation and awareness
  • Academic growth for all students
  • Career exploration and future educational opportunities
  • Violence and drug abuse prevention including bullying
  • Addressing the needs of at-risk students
  • Conflict resolution skills
  • Parental involvement
Goals

In accordance with the district and campus policy, and in conjunction with the School Improvement Plan, the school counselor will:
seek to support and reinforce those goals of student achievement, parent participation, management efficiency and public engagement, while emphasizing the specific content areas of violence prevention, anger management, academic planning and success, college and career exploration, self- esteem, coping skills and interpersonal skills for all students.
1. To guide students through the development of educational planning, and college/career exploration.
2. To encourage and facilitate parent involvement.
4. To encourage, monitor, and assist students to academic improvement and growth.
5. To guide students in addressing issues involved in the prevention of violence, drug/alcohol abuse, bullying, and harassment.
6. To provide needed interventions for those students considered at-risk for academic failure.
