Mathematics
and Science Magnet programs give students
the opportunity for in-depth,
process-oriented study in science- and
math-related fields in conjunction with a
strong academic program. Students are
encouraged to develop laboratory skills
through active, “hands-on” experimentation
in a variety of science courses.
Math and
computer study promotes critical-thinking
and problem-solving skills. Magnet students
compete regularly in math, science, and
computer fairs and participate in clubs and
other school activities.
Selection for
math and science programs is based on a
matrix of grades on the most recent
end-of-year and current first-of-year report
cards, scores on the Stanford 9 math and
science subtests and the TAKS math subtest,
and the most recent end-of-year.
