Clifton Middle School students had a fantastic experience when they were part of a real live television program on Tuesday, March 6.  The students along with their counselor, Dr. Belva Parrish, and their assistant principal, Ms. Rhonda LeDuff, were invited to the Deborah Duncan Show on Channel 11 to highlight the importance of learning about careers during middle school. Following the program, the group toured the KHOU studio under the direction of Ms. Suzanne Badger, Associate Producer of Great Day Houston.  The group explored the different uses of technology, the importance of the Web, and the way the different jobs in the studio work together to synchronize a television program.

Ms. Duncan, herself, began thinking of a career early in her life. Raised in a military family, Deborah used her interviewing skills early in life to make new friend each time the family moved.  While in high school, her drama teacher urged Deborah to pursue broadcasting as a career.  Deborah enrolled at the University of Texas in Austin and ultimately earned a degree in Radio-Television-Film. While the recipient of many local and national awards for broadcasting excellence in addition to recognition for community service, Deborah Duncan is a wonderful example of a career that began early in her educational experience.

Clifton Middle School understands the importance of emphasizing career exploration during the crucial years of middle school. Clifton will continue an emphasis on careers through the annual College and Career Night on March 8.
